DEMOCRACY WE'RE NOT
Limits on Democracy
Pure democracy crushes independence as the majority always overrules the individual. Our constitution carefully sets out to protect the rights of the individual from mobrule, collectivism, and the 'general will.' Confusion as to our representative structure is not new, evidenced by James Madison's observation: "The error...seems to owe its rise and prevelance to the confounding of a republic with a democracy... A democracy... will be confined to a small spot. A republic may be extended over a large region."

John Adams offered an alternative point of view proclaiming, "there never was a democracy that did not commit suicide."

The Road To Hell
Pure democracies invariably fail, eventually ending up in the waste-heap of totalitariasm, dictatorships, breakaway states, or revolution. This fact, while delusionally rebuffed by those wishing for a utopian society, isn't necessarily difficult to understand.

Think about it for a moment...The majority of our population lives in fewer than 10 states sharing very little in common with the other 40. If the majority always ruled all the time 10 states would determine every law, every president and every regulation. Over time, as the 10 states imposed their will on the other 40, tensions would mount until something changed - most likely conflict or separation.

Our representative system ingeniously provides a federal framework designed to protect the sovereignty of each state and its citizens. Unfortunately, this striking benefit is under direct attack by Washington DC politicians.
LIBERTY AND FREEDOM NEED DEFENDING
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Liberty vs. Freedom
As mentioned in another section, our founders specifically addressed liberty as a natural right bestowed upon you by Nature, God, or to whatever you credit your existance. How is liberty different from freedom? Liberty comes from a source above and beyond government or the State, whereas freedom is granted by, earned, or fought from the State. The writers of the US Constitution and the Declaration went out of their way to clearly identify that each person is born with Liberty and, therefore, should not need to earn it from government or the State.

Rights, Not Entitlements
The Revolutionaries declared that each person is born with unalienable rights including Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. So concerned were they about the government devolving into State-like tyranny they went out of their way to identify 10 more rights we know as the Ten Amendments. These amendments placed severe, straightforward restrictions on the Federal Government and spent no verbiage conveying rights to one group in favor of another. No words were written proclaiming the right to a retirement, healthcare, transportation, a job, housing, disability, or any other financially oriented entitlement. Why? Because financial rights always come at someone else's expense and freedom.

Your Rights Under Attack
During times of great need individuals can be tempted to exchange their own - or somebody elses - personal liberties for promises of security.

Statists employ increasingly complex, insidious tactics (usually wrapped around the word 'crisis') to tempt otherwise reasonable people into accepting liberty-busting power grabs. For example, politicians seeking to implement a new entitlement program understand that you are likely to reject increasing your own taxes, therefore, they use verbiage which implies somebody elses taxes will be raised. To justify seizing private enterprises, they use neat catch phrases such as "too big to fail." They build our national debt (payments which must be made by someone sometime in the future) by borrowing from the privately held Federal Reserve (a ludicrous practice) or by selling your's and your childrens future productivity to foreign nations.

Personal Productivity Belongs To You
Statists believe that your productivity - and your resulting pay - does not belong to you; rather, your output belongs to the nation as a whole. The United States established the exact opposite governmental (federal republic) and economic (capitalism) systems to protect each person's right to their own property and work output. This economic freedom is now under direct attack by congress, the President and various interest groupsgoo.
