DEMOCRACY WE'RE NOT
Limits on Democracy
Pure democracy crushes independence as the majority always overrules the individual. Our constitution carefully sets out to protect the rights of the individual from mobrule, collectivism, and the 'general will.' Confusion as to our representative structure is not new, evidenced by James Madison's observation: "The error...seems to owe its rise and prevelance to the confounding of a republic with a democracy... A democracy... will be confined to a small spot. A republic may be extended over a large region."

John Adams offered an alternative point of view proclaiming, "there never was a democracy that did not commit suicide."

The Road To Hell
Pure democracies invariably fail, eventually ending up in the waste-heap of totalitariasm, dictatorships, breakaway states, or revolution. This fact, while delusionally rebuffed by those wishing for a utopian society, isn't necessarily difficult to understand.

Think about it for a moment...The majority of our population lives in fewer than 10 states sharing very little in common with the other 40. If the majority always ruled all the time 10 states would determine every law, every president and every regulation. Over time, as the 10 states imposed their will on the other 40, tensions would mount until something changed - most likely conflict or separation.

Our representative system ingeniously provides a federal framework designed to protect the sovereignty of each state and its citizens. Unfortunately, this striking benefit is under direct attack by Washington DC politicians.
SOCIAL SECURITY REFORM CANNOT BE IGNORED
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Flawed From The Start
When Franklin Roosevelt signed Social Security into law the State assumed a vast amount of control over US citizens by forcing each one of us to pay into government sponsored retirement from the moment we earn an income. You own no choice in the matter - contribute or go to jail. It's no secret social security is on the brink of insolvancy. Here's why:

  • Social security recipients get paid by existing taxpayers rather than being compensated from their own accounts saved during their productive years. This irresponsible, liberty-stripping structure accomplishes two State objectives: a) elderly dependence on government and working taxpayers for much of their welfare; b) implied dependence on government by existing tax payers who expect to one day receive a government check since "they've paid into the system."
  • When FDR signed SS into existance the average life expectancy was 66, yet citizens could not draw benefits until the age of 65. That's right.. they counted on people dying soon after qualifying for benefits to keep costs contained. Today, life expectancies average 77 meaning people are drawing money from the system significantly longer than anticipated.
  • Since people live longer the actual number of individuals receiving SS checks simultaneously has skyrocketed forcing massive inbalances between what's collected from taxpayers vs. the amount of money sent to SS recipients.

    Not Necessarily A Bad Idea
We all need to employ sound retirement strategies and social security isn't necessarily an unsound concept for citizens who don't trust their own ability to save for their later years. Social Security's flaws can be easily repaired by turning the system into a choice-based, "get out what you put in" environment - like every other retirement vehicle. Each paycheck, your 15% social security tax burden would be DEPOSITED into your own interest bearing retirement account touchable only at retirement age, thereby eliminating the need for existing generations of workers to finance retirees.

    Fear, Fear, and More Fear
Politicians and special interest organizations employ effective tactics to scare elderly and soon to be elderly voters into keeping the status quo. Despite such tactics reality dictates that sooner than later the SS system will become insolvent unless we as citizens force DC politicians to enact a responsible system. Continuing forward with our irresponsible system ensures failure for everybody. What constitutes a responsible system? One that guarantees you receive what you put in plus interest - nothing more, nothing less.
